Our Work
The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society is a non-profit charity that operates animal centers in Niagara Falls, Welland and Port Colborne providing shelter for homeless animals and adopting them to caring families. We continue to be innovative in our programming that enhances and supports the human-animal bond for the many animals with whom we share our community and our lives, and to fostering the important bonds with animals that enrich us as individuals, families and communities.
As we approach the end of 2022, I think back on the happiness the Niagara SPCA and Humane Society has created for new pet owners. Already, we have found homes for 850 animals here in Niagara. The Niagara SPCA and Humane Society provides all the love and care they need while with us. Our newly created program in 2022, "Specially-Abled Pets". This Program was created to help the many animals who come into our care with injuries and medical care that require specailized treatment.
Earlier this year, we responded to a call regarding a puppy wondering around a muncipal waste center. Once we arrived, we witnessed a happy, energetic and sweet boxer named Trooper. But, Trooper was missing his hind right leg. During his stay, our Animal Care and Medical team were able to examine, diagnose and create a treatment plan designed for Trooper to have the best life. Since Trooper was young, his treatment was more complex since multiple prosethics would be required as he aged. Thanks to generous community members like you, we surpassed our goal and got trooper the care he needed. Thus, Specially-abled pets program was created.
The Specially-abled Pets program is designed to provide attention and funds to animals that enter our doors with complex behavioural and medical procedures. Since the launch, five animals have been deemed speically-abled.
